How to Configure W3 Total Cache With WPtouch

What is WPtouch?

WPtouch is a mobile friendly theme for your WordPress website/blog. Now-a-days, your website/blog must be mobile friendly as per Google Guidelines. It’s a generation of smartphones. If your website/blog is not mobile-friendly then your web elements will be misplaced and your website looks odd in smartphones. Google may reject your website for adsense account.

WPtouch gives a very smart mobile-friendly look to your website/blog. Just install and activate WPtouch plugin(hope you all know it well). Go to Settings of WPtouch. You can see you can give a short title of your site so that it appears beautiful in small screen.Go through the remaining settings and set accordingly as per your requirements.

 

In Site Compatibility tab, you have to change nothing in case of free version.  Keep Devices setting as it is shown below. Devices settings tells you which devices and browsers will support this theme.Your can add more agents into this list.

In the Menu Settings tab, enable only “Enable parent items as links” . You can keep other two option disabled as shown below.

 

You have nothing to do with remaining tabs. Click on Preview button to check how it looks.

What is W3 Total Cache?

This plugin is used to improve page speed and user experience by caching data from the previous request so that that data can be reuse for subsequent requests. This plugin is also used for clearing caches. Settings for W3 Total Cache are not discussed here. If you face any issues then comment below.

If both plugins are active in WordPress then you have to configure Wptouch with W3 Total Cache then only WPtouch mobile theme will be displayed in mobile phones. If you configure it then only storing caches and clearing caches for mobile devices will happen.

Once you install and activate W3 Total Cache plugin, you will see one new Performance item added to the Tool bar. Follow bellow steps to configure :

  • Go to WordPress Dashboard.
  • Go to Performance.
  • Go to General Settings.
  • Go to Browser Cache section and enable Browser Cache.

  • Go to Browser Cache under Performance Tab.
  • Disable “Set expires header”.
  • Copy the list of mobile user agents given below.
  • Go to the “Page Cache” settings under the “Performance” tab. Scroll down to the “Rejected User Agents” field and paste the list one per line.
  • Click on Save all settings.

 

  • Go to the “Minify” settings under the “Performance” tab. Scroll down to the “Rejected User Agents” field and paste the list one per line.
  • Click on Save all settings.
  • Go to the “CDN” settings under the “Performance” tab. Scroll down to the “Rejected User Agents” field and paste the list one per line.
  • Click on Save all settings.
  • Go to the W3 Total Cache “Dashboard” and select “Empty All Caches”.
